Multi-Function Silicone Lids
New silicone lid designs continue to show up on the market. In prior years, the lids were mostly about esthetics and more recent versions added functional elements for stacking, venting and to add visibility by including clear silicone areas.
Silicone lids also align with movement to reduce waste and single-use plastic item.
Competitive Landscape
Existing silicone lids are designed for one function only (covers). Their raised center handles make them difficult to use as trivet, a non-skid base for a mixing bowl or easy to store.
Consumer Survey
Most bowls don’t come with lids and need to be covered to keep foods fresh in the fridge or warm when serving.
Plastic wrap or aluminum foil are common alternatives but are more wasteful

Desired Functions
I had been working out the details of the center handle. It needs to be sturdy enough to be able to hold the lid while connected to the bowl and flexible enough to fold or collapse out of the way so it can be used as a trivet.
Development
Developed multiple silicone lid pattern concepts, balancing aesthetic appeal with functional performance. The final raised rib pattern allows the lid to function as a trivet. The radial ribs would allow a pot/ pan to sit flat with without tipping on the raised central handle.
Many competitors have a protruding center handle that does not fold down, and they cannot be used as a trivet.
Costco
1n 2025, a set of 10 lids were sold at Costco and received very good reviews.
